Massage
Therapy Training
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Book Description
Updated and invigorated, Understanding Sports Massage, Second
Edition, provides readers with an understanding of the fundamental
theory and practical basis for using sports massage to keep athletes
in top shape, recover from injuries, and improve performance.
Like the successful first edition, Understanding Sports Massage
is ideal for sport professionals and students in sports massage
training programs. The book illustrates and explains massage techniques
in detail and describes the procedures involved in conducting
effective sports massage sessions, including determining goals,
organizing the session, and choosing and applying techniques.
In addition to serving sport professionals, the new edition of
Understanding Sports Massage will be useful to coaches, athletes,
and teachers. They will be introduced to massage techniques that
they can learn and apply in nonmedical situations such as in warm-ups,
preparing for and recovering from competition, reducing the potential
for injuries, and aiding in injury rehabilitation.
Understanding Sports Massage, Second Edition,
also features many updates and improvements from the first edition:
1. Nearly 100 photographs demonstrate proper technique.
2. New two-color presentation highlights specific
elements of the text for a clearer understanding of the material
presented.
3. Updated and expanded material throughout the
book includes new sections on medications and massage, specialized
massage techniques, and joint movements and stretching; an updated
trouble spots form; more examples of remedial and rehabilitation
applications; and a description of the increasing use of sports
massage in integrative sports medicine settings.
This text helps readers put theory into practice,
first explaining the scientific underpinnings of sports massage
and then describing in detail how to apply those concepts in a
massage session. This "how-to" approach extends to its
planning and programming sections, in which the authors lay out
the finer points of giving sports massage and then guide readers
in implementing sports massage programs in various settings. The
program-development portion of this book provides practitioners
with detailed advice from the authors, who are well respected
for their expertise and program-development skills. They address
how to implement sports massage programs in various settings and
how sports massage specialists cooperate with other sport and
health professionals to provide the best possible care for athletes.
The result is a comprehensive and richly detailed
guide to providing the best sports massage in a variety of settings
and to developing a top-notch sports massage program in a school
or university, a health club or organization, or a clinic or private
practice.

with standard examination procedures to determine the causes of
health problems. Written for professionals and nonprofessionals
alike, Applied Kinesiology includes 32 muscle tests and a step-by-step
guide for applying specific correction techniques.
Book Info
(North Atlantic Books) Detailed introduction to applied kinesiology
as it is performed by chiropractors and other health professionals.
Presents the principles and basic practices in their original
forms as developed by George Goodheart. Halftone illustrations,
case histories, and 33 muscle tests are included. Softcover.
Robert Frost's AK manual is lean and to the point. It gives the
history of AK, how AK is used in Europe and the USA, theory into
the mechanisms of the reflexes used in AK, basic therapeutic procedures

in health care who is looking to expand their skill set.

Massage Therapists: Success Beyond Work
Quick read, easily understandable. It was nice to hear from someone
trained in the profession who was successful in developing a saleable
business, rather than just creating a list of clients with limited
resale value. For me, there were a few loose strings about how
to make the various moves and what to use as your metrics for
taking the next step. But, that's what we have financial advisors
for isn't it? Worth the read.
Reviews from Amazon
This is the only book I've seen that gave me precise ideas for
marketing my massage business, and I've applied them. The book
also gave me great ideas for adding income to my business without
doing more massage. Thanks, Colleen!

Reviews from Amazon
I have been teaching deep tissue massage for many years. This
is the first really accessible text on deep tissue massage that
I have seen. The illustrations are especially helpful and the
author's descriptions of techniques very useful and easy to follow.
When I first read this book,I could hear my teacher's voice -
it is very similar to my original training in deep tissue massage.
I would recommend it to all massage therapists who want to improve
their massage skills.

A masterpiece on deep tissue massage and myofascial release. Art
Riggs reveals various techniques for different parts of the body
used in structural integration. Art Riggs has excellent narrative
style, share not only his techniques but his experience, advice
and empathy as a massage therapist. This book is a perfect companion
for Riggs' DVD, which is a must.

Hi, I am a professional therapist. I graduated from the
Ohashi Institute in NYC, and I must say that Ohashi has better
techniques than this book. Ohashi's practitioner moves better
and is much more comfortable that in this book. In this book,
sometimes I'd look at the pictures and wonder how the practitioner
is feeling; they look strained, it doesn't seem like they are
using diagonal cross-patterning and their own body weight.
Review
Overall, I think the book is OK, if you haven't been
exposed to the martial-arts -like techniques of the East. This
book shows you something that is better than the traditional western
massage where the patient just lies there on the table, and the
whole experience is static and straining.
However, to achieve the true mastery, I think
it is necessary to go to the eastern sources, like thai massage,
hawai'ian lomi-lomi and "moving" shiatsu, where the
practitioner moves using their center of gravity and gracefully
*takes* the patient for the ride. The net result is excercising
of joints, which is extremely healing. Plus, the practitioner
gets to get healthier too.
I highly recommend Ohashi's school and books.
The longer I practice it, the more I appreciate it.
I also think it is worth looking into the thai
massage, trigger points, cranio-sacral and rolfing. I found that
all those are necessary in order to achieve some results.

I am a NY State Licensed and National Board Certified Massage
Therapist. Honestly speaking, deep tissue massage is in great
demand as people stress out from work and life. About 90% of my
clients come for deep tissue massage.
I have most of the reference material for Deep
Tissue Massage, including this book and DVD by Art Riggs, Deep
Tissue & Neuromuscular Therapy (2 sets) by Sean Riehl, Balanced
Body by Donald W. Scheumann, and Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques
(Vol 1) by Erik Dalton. Art Riggs' teaching material excels from
them all. Furthermore, I appreciated the way how Riggs handled
customer complaints. Riggs answered my email complaints personally
and have turned a customer complaint into a praise. On the other
extreme, I never got any email answer from Erik Dalton regarding
my purchase (I did get an order confirmation from his company).
A final word, you will not regret buying the study
material from Art Riggs, and don't waste money on the studying
material for Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques. Most of the techniques
from Myoskeletal Alignment (Vol 1) can be found in Art Riggs'
Deep Tissue Massage.
Enjoy your Deep Tissue Massage
Review
To be honest, these treatments can hurt A LOT but if you want
to try something different and are opposed to taking pills you
might as well clench your teeth and see what happens. You can
make money with this if you use it professionally and pretty much
run things the way you want. Be careful not to harm your customers,
though because it can go out of control. I've heard it works for
some people.

Toss away all dependence on the greedy, evil medical profession.
Deep Tissue Massage is more scientifically based than Chiropractic
and it does't even require a license. If you have a Homeopathic
Dr. who charges too much, this will work just as well and keep
you safe and sound. Clean out that medicine cabinet. No more poisons!
Thank you for your selfless advice, Art Riggs! Those who call
you a quack are just uneducated. I only wish the book had advice
on curing specific diseases like Cancer and Heart Disease. I feel
it could rebalance the body so that would be possible at least.
I am going to try some of it on my dog, who is getting old.

on the similar key questions that are asked on exams.
Review
951 questions and answers!! This book was essential to my passing
the NCBTMB the first time. I learned a great deal from this book
and well as from Volumes 2 and 3. I was surprised at the number
of test questions about Traditional Chinese Medicine. This book
provides a great deal of information on that topic.
This was a great book to use in preparation for the NCBTMB exam,
even though some of the questions were a little TOO esoteric (5
questions on hyoid muscles? Come on! How often does one massage
the THROAT? And the bulbospongious and levator ani? Yeah, right!
I massage those every time - NOT!) Even so, it helped me focus
on what was for me the most difficult and challenging part of
the exam and to find the "holes" in my knowledge. Questions
arent' mixed up, but are in order, so it's possible to review
a system, take the questions, correct, then review again. HIGHLY
recommended!

Reviews from Amazon
I found this book to be very helpful, especially when used with
Volume I. I quizzed myself with his questions and answers after
I read a chapter, and usually found that I didn't understand a
section deeply enough. I'd much rather get questions wrong before
the test than during! Many of the questions on the test were very
similar to his questions. I'd recommend this Volume & also
Volume 1 if you are looking for good grades for A&P. You can't
do wrong by learning from a former professor of A&P!
Reviews
I found this book to be great for helping me get an "A"
in my anatomy and physiology class in college. It's to the point
and focused on key topics. It helped me focus on the type of questions
that my teacher asked on my final. Thanks Dr. Leonardi for writing
this book. This book is a must buy for any undergraduate A and
P student, massage therapy student, or anyone wanting to know
more about anatomy and physiology. I also used Volume 1 (ISBN:
0971999619) also sold on amazon. Both books helped me to get excellent
grades in my A and P class.

Complete Review Guide: For State and National Examinations
in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (Paperback)
Book Description
One of the few books
in the world written on this very popular Australian method of
muscle pressure release therapy commonly referred to as Bowen
Therapy. Over 40 years ago in Australia, this method was conceived
by Tom Bowen and now it is taught and practiced in over 25 countries
around the world. This miraculous method has been responsible
for so many success stories regarding relief of pain and allows
the body to self-heal. An exciting account by one of natural medicine's
foremost authorities.
From the Author
"I really believe that the world is changing. People are
changing. People are searching for a greater fullfillment. We
will look at the past as a primitive time. War, money, drugs,
greed, power, racism. These are primitive words. Words of the
second millennium.
Cooperation, exchange of ideas, common goals, respect for nature,
equality and natural means of diagnosing and dealing with disease
are words of the third millenium, the new millennium." Frank
Navratil
Review from Amazon
One of the best, inspirational books I have read in a long time.
Frank Navratil explains in a wonderful way about this long mysterious
Australian method, in a clear and inspirational way. After reading
this book, I was motivated to take a course in Bowen therapy as
well as to undergo this therapy for my health problems. It truly
is a miraculous method that I think eveyone should know about
especially if you have any kind of pain, migraines, or just about
any other health problems.
I believe it is one of the long lost secrets to discovering more
about how to improve your health. I sincerely recommend you read
this book.
