Massage
Therapists, Recognize The Importance Of Keeping Good Patient Records.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keeping good patient records is an important
as giving proper massage therapy care to your patients. In Dr.
Koshes’ online CEU massage therapist course titled, “Clinical
Neurology And Orthopedics For The Massage Therapist,” he reviews
the appropriate way to keep proper office records. When keeping
proper office records be sure to include all data that is both
negative and positive. Be objective not judgmental in your assessment
of your patient. Your records need to be understandable. If you
are using abbreviations that are not standard, a key of the abbreviations
should accompany your office notes for translation. Please be
certain never to change or erase your notes if subpoenaed in a
court case it is indefensible.
In this licensed Massage Therapist continuing
education unit, Dr. Koshes covers the standard office note used
today by all health care practitioners, The SOAP note. With this
type of note the “S” stands for subjective complaints the patient
will tell you when they enter your office. If you should quote
a patient’s words like, “I have pain in my neck that travels into
my right arm,” quotation marks should be placed around the exact
phrase the patient says to identify that these were the exact
words spoken by the patient.
