Spurs-Definition, Symptoms and Treatment
In Dr. Koshes’ massage therapy training he reviews
commonly diagnosed musculoskeletal conditions with protocols for
treatment. He tells his class that bony spurs are calcium deposited
in a soft tissue like a ligament, tendon or muscle due to repeated
trauma or increased stress on the structure.
Symptoms that can be produced can be neurological,
ligamentous or involve other soft tissues that the spur impinges
upon.
Treatment initially should include “PRICES” which stands for;
protection of the injury, rest of the injury, ice, compression,
elevation and support for the injury. Treatment of this type of
injury could take 4-6 weeks. In-office care protocol could include
massage treatment (to the surrounding tissues but not directly
over the spur), acupuncture, physical therapy, and chiropractic,
mild to moderate support bracing and/or exercise therapy.
A well-known CEU Instructor For LMT's, Dr. Koshes
